Within the framework of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) held in Dubai (UAE), the League of Arab States (LAS), the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood in the UAE, the Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND) and the Arab Council for Childhood and Development (ACCD) organized a Dialogue Session entitled “The Role of Arab Children in Confronting Climate Change”. The Session was held on December 9, 2023, at the Legacy Auditorium, Education Pavilion in the Green Zone at Expo City in Dubai.

Children from 6 Arab countries participated in the Dialogue Session (UAE - Oman - Qatar - Kuwait - Libya - Egypt), in the presence of several public figures, experts, representatives of international and regional organizations and many children from the UAE. The aim was to provide the opportunity for children to practice their right to participation, by expressing their opinions and aspirations on climate issues, considering that children are an integral part in addressing the climate crisis, and the most affected by it.

The Dialogue Session concluded with the children emphasizing their role in confronting climate change issues by changing their daily practices to be more sustainable. The Children have also called on world leaders, especially the countries causing this crisis, to stop spoiling the environment and work to preserve it, as well as to direct the money spent on wars and destruction to strategies and programs that aim to confront climate change, in order to save the world and become a green world, and to work together to achieve a more stable, equitable and sustainable future.
